Self-managed or Plan-managed NDIS CLIENTS:


The NDIS saga regarding art therapy has continued… and continued… and changed… but not with me anymore. I have given up my registration as an art therapist even though I have tertiary qualification in mental health specialising in art therapy. I have decided to offer psychological therapy sessions as an AASW registered social worker. I will integrate art making in the sessions if so wished and required. I will use the same kind of ‘talk therapy’ components as before: Strengths-Based and Person-Centred with Trauma Awareness.

You may call me an art therapist, which I am, but my sessions will be charged under the social work therapy code if you are NDIS client. This decision was easy to make in the end. I just didn’t want to live by the ever-changing nature of NDIS rules and regulations. NDIS in general would not affect my practice but since most of my client s are under the scheme, I had to make a decision how to continue practicing my small business. Those not on NDIS, nothing changes for them.


SESSIONS:

What your sessions may look like depend on you. We might start off checking your current mood and do relaxation exercises. We might continue with art making and have a discussion at the same time. There might be a particular issue on your mind that we might work on. It might be your worry to go back to hospital or worrying thoughts about your safety, self-care or care for others. Or it might be that you feel stuck and would like to expand your creativity for self-healing. Or you might have come just to have a break in your day/week/month and have 50 minutes just for yourself. Please note that I am currently renting a room in Springwood for Thursdays only.

And finally, please email me questions (beautyforgivenesshealing@gmail.com) about my practice if you are unsure and would like clarification. On the other hand, I always recommend booking one session and getting a “feel” of the session. You will know after one session if you like to continue with me or not!

Hope your weeks towards Christmas time and beyond will be filled with moments of relaxation and creativity! Don’t forget to breath! Drink a glass of water when in doubt! And sensory checks are very good at breaking a looping anxiety: See, hear, smell, feel, taste!
